Where Our Story Begins
Long before Sabor Peruano had a name, our story began in Barranca, Peru.
It began around family tables, with recipes passed from one generation to the next. Food was more than something we ate. It was how our family gathered, how traditions were preserved, and how a piece of home could be carried with you wherever life took you.
Those traditions would eventually travel thousands of miles.
A New Beginning
In 2013, our parents came to the United States from Peru with four children, very little money, and an unwavering faith in God.
Like so many immigrant families, they came searching for an opportunity to build something better for their children.
There was no restaurant waiting for them. No business. No guarantee that things would work out.
There was simply family, faith, and a willingness to work.
Our father took on long hours in construction, often doing difficult work for little pay. Our mother found work in the kitchen of a Peruvian restaurant in Bridgeport, Connecticut.
And in that kitchen, something important was happening.
She was cooking the food she knew.
The recipes and techniques she had learned through her own mother—the same flavors that had been passed through our family for generations—were now being served to a new community thousands of miles from Barranca.
The Opportunity
The restaurant where our mother worked was struggling.
But where others may have seen a business that wasn't working, our parents saw possibility.
At the end of 2017, through years of sacrifice, the support of family and friends, and tremendous faith, our parents took one of the biggest risks of their lives.
